Residents who have spent years on council’s waiting list here are reportedly failing to get residential stands due to clashes between councillors and management over pricing structures, it has emerged.

The dispute has been raging for close to a year now.

Failure to come up with a pricing structure has also stalled servicing of the city’s largest housing project – Victory Housing Scheme, which depends on sales for services.

The City of Kadoma recently hinted that it had run out of low-density stands. Under the Victory Park Housing Project, council wants to embark on the construction of roads, storm water drainage systems and water and sewer reticulation systems for 5 700 residential stands.

Speaking during a full council meeting at Town House on Tuesday this week, Victory Park Housing Project chairperson, Councillor Cosmas Daka, said the dispute over prices was stalling progress at the new residential area.

“As councillors and management, we have taken too long to resolve pricing for stands,” he said.

“Nothing is moving and its now as if we are to blame as the new committee, but there is no tangible reason why it is taking long for us to resolve this issue.”

Clr Daka decried the growing number of residents on the council’s waiting list.

The previous housing committee reportedly locked horns over the pricing issue with fellow councillors when a proposal was made to peg the prices in United States dollars.

Others wanted them pegged in local currency.

Kadoma Town Clerk Mr Malvern Dondo assured councillors that the issue would soon be resolved.
