MANCHESTER. — Marcus Rashford spurned Liverpool to join Manchester United when he was seven years old, Sportsmail can reveal. The 18-year-old continued his astounding debut season by firing United on their way to an FA Cup quarter-final victory against West Ham – the last ever FA Cup fixture at Upton Park – on Wednesday night.

The strike, beautifully stroked into the top right corner, was his sixth goal in 11 appearances since Louis van Gaal handed the player his first Manchester United senior appearance in February in their Europa League win against Midtjylland.

He scored twice then, followed it up with a double against Arsenal three days later and also netted the winner against Manchester City in the derby last month.

But sources at his first junior club Fletcher Moss Rangers have indicated that he could well have been breaking through at fierce rivals Liverpool as they tried to lure him to Anfield before he joined United. Everton, while David Moyes was in charge, were also interested in the youngster, but he is a Manchester United supporter and opted to joined his boyhood club. — Mailonline.
