The distribution of inputs under the Presidential Well-Wishers Input Scheme has kicked off in Hurungwe with most of the beneficiaries promising to put the inputs to good use.

Chief Nematombo of Hurungwe, who was the first in Ward 11 in Magunje constituency to receive a 10kg pocket of seed maize and a 50kg bag of Compound D fertiliser, said he would dry plant since he had already prepared the land.

“I am going to personally do the planting today because I ploughed my field with the first rains.

“We should thank the President for the facility, which over the years has rescued my subjects from hunger. The facility has, in fact, beefed up the food security of the area,” he said.

Chief Nematombo received his package at Birimahwe Business Centre, where 72 village heads also received inputs for distribution to two people per village.

Addressing the gathering, Ward 11 councillor Mr Victor Chaka said there was no need for people to scramble for the few inputs that had so far been delivered for the launch as more inputs were still on their way.

Chief Nematombo urged the beneficiaries to put the inputs to good use and that those who had not received them to desist from making unnecessary complaints since more inputs were yet to be delivered.

Meanwhile, Hurungwe Rural District Council chairman Mr Tichaona Mathew said his council had resolved that only those who had paid up their levies would be considered first in the distribution of the inputs.

“Following a recent meeting that we held as council we resolved that only those who have paid up their levies must be considered first before defaulters.

“We are not saying those who have not paid their levies will not get the inputs. What we are saying here is that their turn will only come after those who are paid up have received the inputs,” he said.-New Ziana
