PRESIDENT Mugabe yesterday held talks with Algerian president of Senate Mr Abdelkader Bansalah who was in the country to attend his inauguration as the Head of State and Government at a colourful ceremony held at the National Sports Stadium.In an interview soon after meeting President Mugabe at State House yesterday, Mr Bansalah described the just ended election as transparent.

“I met President Mugabe to express gratitude to him on his election. We also wanted to congratulate him for the electoral process. We conveyed our congratulations for the transparent electoral process that Zimbabwe held,” said Mr Bansalah.

He said their discussions also centred on how to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries.
“We discussed ways to consolidate relations between the two countries,” he said.

Mr Bansalah, who arrived in the country on Wednesday, said he had come to Harare representing Algerian president, Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

President Bouteflika, said Mr Bansalah, was delighted about the credible election Zimbabwe held.
He was accompanied by Algeria’s ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr Lazhar Soualem.

Zimbabwe and Algeria enjoy good bilateral relations that date back to the liberation struggle that saw Harare attaining its independence on April 18, 1980.

The North African country currently train Zimbabwean students at its universities.
The Algerian diplomat was among the top dignitaries that attended Thursday’s inauguration of President Mugabe as Head of State and Government.
