ZANU PF will on Monday hold an extraordinary Politburo meeting at the party headquarters as it intensifies the ongoing restructuring exercise to ensure a clean sweep in the 2023 harmonised elections.

Next month the revolutionary party will hold its 19th Annual People Conference on the backdrop of numerous achievements made by the Second Republic under the stewardship of President Mnangagwa.

Some of the achievements include dam construction, rehabilitation of roads, revamping of health institutions, engagement, and re-engagement with the rest of the world, and peaceful existence with opposition parties.

The conference will also take stock of the achievements made by the party in fulfilling its 2018 campaigning manifesto.

In a statement, the party’s acting Secretary for Information and Publicity Dr Mike Bimha urged members to be punctual.

“The Secretary for Administration Dr Obert Mpofu wishes to advise all members that there shall be an extraordinary Politburo session to be held on Monday 20 September 2021 at the home of the People’s Revolution, Zanu PF headquarters commencing 10 00 hours.

“All members should be seated by 09:45am hours sharp,” said Dr Bimha.

The extraordinary Politburo session will be held just before the party’s district elections which will be conducted across the country’s 10 provinces.

Already guidelines for the district elections have been set to ensure a smooth flow of the process.

On Tuesday the party’s Secretary for Security Cde Lovemore Matuke urged party members to desist from vote-buying and name-dropping, saying candidates should stick to the set guidelines.

“The impending district elections should be conducted according to party guidelines. We do not expect vote-buying, name dropping, or use of political muscle during the whole process. We are expecting members to adhere to democratic practices to ensure a resounding victory in the 2023 harmonised elections. Party members should elect leaders of their choice who would be able to work and deliver for the party,” said Cde Matuke.

The district elections will be conducted by the District Coordinating Committees (DCCs) and supervised by the provincial executive committee members.

Following the completion of the restructuring of the party branches on September 12 this year, Zanu PF acting national Political Commissar Cde Patrick Chinamasa said provinces should conduct elections of party districts from September 20 to 26.

He warned members against manipulating the election process, saying those involved in such acts will face disciplinary action.

“Any members breaching the rules of the elections must be identified and reported through the DCC and provincial channels to party headquarters’ District Elections Command Centre so that appropriate disciplinary action can be taken against the transgressors,’’ he said.

According to the circular directed to provincial chairpersons, the positions of the main wing shall be voted for by all executive committee members of the three wings of party branches making up the respective party districts.

The three wings refer to the main wing, women’s league and the youth league executive committees of party branches in the district.

The positions of district chairwomen and district youth chairpersons shall be voted for by members of the Women’s Wing and Youth wing executive committees of party branches in each party district, respectively.

The district elections shall be conducted through the basket system and by secret ballot to achieve fair representation of all the party branches within the respective party district boundary.
