MANICALAND Provincial Administrator Mr Edgars Seenza has hailed the developmental projects being carried out in Mutasa District aimed at improving the lives of local people.

Speaking during a tour of projects being implemented in Mutasa last week, Mr Seenza expressed satisfaction with the progress made on the projects that include the construction of seven 500 000- megalitre water supply tanks, the construction of two clinics and gravelling of roads in the district.

“The projects we have seen here are tremendous and it is imperative that the community utilises the water supply tanks to embark on income-generating projects,” he said.

Mutasa District Administrator Mr Tendai Kapenzi said out of the seven tanks which were constructed between 2016 and 2017, two were ready for commissioning.

He said the water tank being constructed in Selbourne would serve over 1 500 households in the surrounding areas of Chitowe village, DC, as well as Sakupwanya Clinic.

“In efforts to construct this tank, the community itself chipped in with about $5 per household which was used to buy cement and other material,” said Mr Kapenzi. “We are happy to announce that the majority of Mutasa villages now has water coming out of their taps.”

Mr Kapenzi said in a bid to boost tourism in the district, the local council had also contracted a private company that was focussed on regravelling of the road that leads to Osborne Dam.

Mutasa Rural District Council chief executive Mr George Bandure said it was the duty of local authorities to focus on infrastructure development.

“Infrastructure development is one of the critical issues that the local authorities should focus on, this is evidenced by this tour and it shows that the local authorities are on the ground,” he said, add-                                                                        ing:.

“Our duty is to respond to the needs of the people in any positive way.”
