JUST six months into his maiden dance with professional football, Warriors defender Ronald Pfumbidzai has found himself back in the domestic league and club-hunting. Pfumbidzai had joined Danish top flight’s club Hobro IK in June but somehow something terribly went wrong and his contract with the club was terminated midway through the one year deal. The former CAPS United defender is said to have been unlucky to arrive at the club at the time when a new coach was also ushered in and the defender was left in the cold as the new mentor preferred another defender from Mali.

According to his compatriot and teammate at Hobro IK — winger Quincy Antipas —Pfumbidzai found himself in an unlucky situation, which many footballers have found themselves in most of the times. “I don’t think so much went wrong, we signed a new coach and he wanted a different way of playing. Ronald is an attacking defender and he was looking for a more defensive player so he opted for another defender from Mali.

“But that is football and it happens. Ronald tried his best and I don’t think his return has got much to do with performance, he gave his best. “In Morocco, I had the same experience so I really understand that these things happen.

“He played in four games including a cup game and the club was very happy with his input,” said Antipas.

The former CAPS United striker said an amicable agreement was reached between Pfumbidzai and the club as the defender’s one year deal was yet to lapse.

“They agreed on a settlement between the club and him and that was the best option. But for me details and his next move, Ronald and his manager are in a better position to comment on that,” he said. Antipas has been sidelined with an injury for the past seven months and is hoping to return to action next year.

This season, Hobro IK had three Zimbabweans on their books including a teenage midfield Tanaka Chinyahara, who also joined the club during the June-July transfer window from South Africa Premiership side Bidvest Wits.

Although they sent Pfumbidzai packing, the Danish are still interested in Zimbabwean players. Pfumbidzai’s return might see him rejoin his former club CAPS United. It is understood that there have been negotiations between CAPS United president Farai Jere and the player’s manager Andrew Rusike to have the defender return to Makepekepe.

However, other clubs such as Harare City and FC Platinum are also believed to be interested in the signature of the player. CAPS United chief executive Joe Makuvire refused to comment on the matter and referred all questions to Jere who, however, could not be reached for comment.

Hobro IK sent one of their coaches on a scouting mission and with the assistance of Quincy he has been conducting invitational training camps so that players from various academies learn more about football.

“We are working with different age groups from the academies and the coach seem satisfied with the performance even though we are not able to give everyone enough attention as we are working with a large group,” Antipas said.
