The Zimbabwe Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade has pledged its support to the Museum of African Liberation which is one of the most ambitious projects by the emerging Pan-African think tank Institute of African Knowledge (INSTAK).

The portfolio committee in a letter dated July 22, 2022 invited INSTAK to appear before the committee on August, 16 2020 to brief the committee on the envisaged role to be played by the Museum of African Liberation in bolstering the African Union (UA)’s objectives on achieving greater unity and solidarity among African countries and the people.

INSTAK also briefed the committee on AU’s objectives on accelerating the political and socio-economic integrity of the African continent.

The portfolio committee meeting was chaired by Honourable Webster Shamhu while INSTAK was represented by its chief executive officer Ambassador Kwame Muzawazi and three members of the INSTAK management team.

Ambassador Muzawazi presented oral evidence around the project specifically addressing the areas indicated in the invitation letter and later fielded questions from the committee.

The committee was satisfied with the submissions made by ambassador Muzawazi and further suggested that a physical site visit to the Museum of African Liberation will assist in shaping greater appreciation of the project.

The Committee Chairperson on behalf of the committee assured support of the Museum of African Liberation project.

Construction of the Museum of African Liberation commenced in July this year and was followed by construction of the Liberation Mall.

The monument is a dedication to all fallen veterans of the continent’s liberation wars and is meant to document wars fought in Africa in its quest for self-governance.

There are various amenities set to support the museum like a five-star hotel, amusement park, Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) exhibition park, zoo and a shopping mall.
