THE State of Palestine has sent a women delegation to attend the Zanu PF Women’s League conference which began yesterday in Harare.

The delegation which comprised of two women, Dr Salwa Ramadan a member of the political office in the General Union of Palestinian Women (GUPW) and Dr Alaa Shanti head of the youth women in the GUPW.

They were representing women in the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) whose purpose is to liberating Palestine, achieving Palestinian self-determination, and securing the return of the refugees.

The women are the first Palestinian delegation to attend the Zanu PF Women’s League conference which is also being attended by sister party delegates from neighbouring countries.

In an interview, Dr Shanti said as Palestinian women they were happy to be with their sister’s in Zanu PF Women’s League and strengthen the bilateral relations between Zimbabwe and Palestine. “This visit emphasises the bilateral relations between party to party between Zimbabwe and Palestine. We want to strengthen the relations within the two countries in all sectors.

“We are happy to be in Zimbabwe and to join the conference. We stand with Zimbabwe against the sanctions because we are under occupation and we are suffering as you are suffering but in a different way,” she said.

Palestinian ambassador Tamer Almassri the visit by the Palestinian women to attend the conference symbolised the good relations between Zimbabwe and Palestine.

“This very important visit from the Palestinian women to Zimbabwe. They came with a strong message of solidarity to our comrades and the nation of Zimbabwe. We as the Palestinian people continue to call for the lifting of sanctions against Zimbabwe.

“The historical relations between our two countries and between our two liberation movements, we highly appreciate the support that we receive from our people in Zimbabwe, the Government and the leadership in supporting the Palestinian struggle against the Israeli apartheid occupation,” he said.

Ambassador Almassri said they will continue to maintain the relations for future generations.

“We are together and Zimbabwe is not alone. Together we can achieve a lot of things and together we can do many things. 

“Palestine will not forget its friends and Zimbabwe is not an ordinary friend, we are comrades, brothers, sisters and partners in the struggle against the Israeli occupation as we were partners in the struggle against apartheid regime,” he said.
