OLD Georgians and Zimbiru Titans men’s and women’s sevens rugby teams were crowned the 2022 Paramount Garments champions at the finals held at Old Georgians over the weekend.

The Jacque Leatao-coached Old Georgians managed to beat last year winners Pitbulls to second place after their impressive run.

The Paramount Garments Harare Province League began at the beginning of the year with eight women’s teams and 12 men’s sides playing in a round-robin format.

Legendary former Zimbabwe Cheetahs player Leatao, who is now the Old Georgians head coach, said he is happy with the win and was thankful to the sponsors and organisers.

“The level of competition was very high during the past three weeks and we were unfortunate to lose last week but the boys managed to restructure and we had a good training.

“The plan worked well for us and we were able to come through tops, it was really a challenge after we lost Munopa Maneta earlier on but the boys did well and were up to the task,” said Leatao.

Dombashava-based Zimbiru Titans continued with their dominance as they successfully defended their title.

Zimbiru Titans has stiff competition from Police Defenders, who were second, as Old Georgians ladies were third.

Paramount Garment’s accessories and clothing chief finance officer, Jeremy Yeomans, said they are happy with the way the tournament went on and they look forward to maintain the relationship.

Paramount Garments has for three years been the premier sponsors of the Harare Rugby League.

“We had the partnership with Harare Province and we are looking forward to make it a national event. We look forward to give opportunity the young talent in Zimbabwe and it is an opportunity to produce the products that we can send overseas,” said Yeomans.
