Nyaminyami Rural District Council chief executive Ms Tsanangurayi Chirau has resigned after facing allegations of corruption.

She is being investigated by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC).

In her letter of resignation addressed to the council chairman, Mr Golden Chirongoma and copied to Kariba district administrator, Mr Witness Kufa, Ms Chirau said she was resigning with immediate effect.

The resignation letter was also copied to Mashonaland West acting provincial administrator Mr Amigo Mhlanga.

“By copy of this letter, I wish to tender my formal resignation from my position as the chief executive officer of Nyaminyami Rural District Council,” wrote Ms Chirau.

“My resignation shall be effective immediately.”

ZACC officers arrested six top officials, including Ms Chirau, from the Nyaminyami RDC in connection with misappropriation of council funds amounting to $63 000.

Ms Chirau (47) is jointly charged with finance executive Raison Kazemba and four others.

The State alleges that on December 14 last year, Ms Chirau and Kazemba secured a grader from a contractor without a council resolution, among other charges.
