NATIONAL Rugby League president Noddy Kanyangarara says they are exploring a number of avenues to try and get sponsors for their championship. The NRL are in talks with at least four potential sponsors that include NetOne and Kanyangarara revealed they were still in talks trying to lure Delta Beverages back as sponsors of the league.

“We have been talking to Delta and they have said to us they are willing to chip in if we find someone else to help sponsor the league,” said Kanyangarara.
However, Delta Beverages yesterday told The Herald that they will not be sponsoring the NRL “anytime soon.”
Delta Beverages marketing manager, Patricia Murambinda, said the league did not promote their brands.

“We will not be coming back to sponsor rugby any time soon because we tried with our Lion Lager brand and there wasn’t a good response from the rugby family.
“We do researches with every brand we roll out to sponsor and with rugby there weren’t enough sales that came from trying to market the brand with rugby so we have no reason to be with them at the moment.

“We have tried sponsoring other events like football (with Castle Lager)and the response has been good for us and so we have given the project a thumbs up and that is why we have renewed our contract with them for another term.

“If we had received pleasing research results from our marriage with rugby then we might have renewed the contract and actually at the moment we do not have any brand (amongst their products) that we can associate rugby with.

“This is why we will not be back in rugby soon, but maybe in the future if the environment changes,” said Murambinda.
