No GNU with sell-outs: Youths Zanu PF chief whip Cde Pupurai Togarepi said that the Zanu PF caucus meeting was meant to discuss issues affecting MPs in their areas, the major one being food security and the current evictions being conducted across the country which is affecting a number of people.

The Zanu-PF Youth League is against a Government of National Unity (GNU) that is being advocated by some opposition parties, National Secretary for Youth Affairs Cde Pupurai Togarepi has said.

He made the remarks while addressing thousands of Zanu-PF youths from Mashonaland East Province who were gathered at the provincial headquarters over the weekend.

The youths were celebrating Zanu-PF and President Mnangagwa’s victory in the July 30 harmonised elections.

Out of the 23 constituencies in the province, ZANU-PF bagged 21. Cde Togarepi said there are some in the opposition parties who are pushing for a GNU but they won’t succeed.

“We are hearing already that the opposition is mulling an inclusive Government. As Zanu-PF youths we are totally against that and the opposition must never dream of such.

“You see, we cannot form an inclusive Government with people who call for sanctions on our people. We cannot be in an inclusive Government with someone who calls for people’s suffering, no we cannot do that. After all, they lost the election, so they must forget about it and maybe look forward to 2023,” Cde Togarepi said.

He said the opposition knows well that they had lost and now they were holding the nation to ransom, in a bid to push for an inclusive Government but they would fail.

He said the opposition used tactics which put Zimbabweans at risk and as such they could not be part of Government.

“They know that sanctions will affect the ordinary people like us and they will blame the Government for that and make people believe that the Government is failing yet they are the very people who called for these sanctions.

“Such people are not supposed to be in power. They want all of us to perish first, then who will they govern? Are they going to be voted in power by graves? As youths we are clear on that, we are totally against such people,” Cde Togarepi said.

Cde Togarepi commended youths for voting in numbers in the just ended elections.

He urged them not to be used in derailing the gains of the liberation struggle but be the custodians of national heritage.

Zanu-PF Mashonaland East provincial chairman Cde Biggie Joel Matiza, who was present, weighed in saying youths were the future leaders and as such should guard this country jealously.

“You are the vanguards of this great nation, you are the leaders of tomorrow and you must not destroy what you have today, rather guard the gains of independence jealously, so that as you pass on you will also leave a beautiful legacy for your children,” Cde Matiza said.

He urged youths to remain focused and always respect their elders. Marondera and Wedza Senator Dr Sydney Sekeramayi commended the youths for organising the victory celebrations saying the youths had every reason to celebrate for they constituted a large number of those who cast their votes in the just ended plebiscite.

Dr Sekeramayi urged youths to remain loyal to the party and follow the dictates of the party ideology diligently.

He also urged them to be active in economic programmes availed under the new dispensation.

“Our President is on the record saying politics should now take a back seat. It is now time for economic development and as such I encourage you to be involved in economic developmental programmes and contribute to national development. As future leaders of this great nation, you must not relax, but work hard for the future we want,” he said.

Murewa District Senator and Health and Child Care Minister Dr David Parirenyatwa, Minister of State for Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Wedza North constituency National House Assembly representative Dr David Musabayana and legislators from various constituencies of Mashonaland East Province also attended the event.
