No bail for fraud rap pastor

Court Reporter
Musician and Lighthouse Christian Church pastor Herman Chimusoro (46), who is accused of swindling police of US$192 000 he had been given to buy musical instruments, was yesterday denied bail by a Harare magistrate. Chimusoro was remanded in custody to January 16, 2014 and was not formally charged when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Donald Ndirowei facing theft of trust property charges.

Prosecutor Ms Sharon Mashavira told the court that in May, Chief Superintendent Marange of the Police Staff College engaged Chimusoro to supply them with musical instruments.

Chimusoro allegedly charged US$192 000, which was paid in July and September.

Ms Mashavira said on November 14, Chimusoro supplied eight speakers to the police, but these were of low value and poor quality and were subsequently returned.

On September 10, it is alleged Chimusoro confessed that he misused the money meant for purchasing the musical instruments and he was arrested.
