Nicolas Cage flew back into Los Angeles from China on Wednesday with a message for Hollywood – don’t ignore Asian talent.
The actor has just wrapped shooting on location in the country’s Yunan province for British director Nick Powell’s period drama, Outcast.
But before leaving, the 49-year-old praised the local film stars and accused Hollywood of ignoring them in an interview with China’s giant state broadcaster CCTV, which is hugely popular all over the country.

Outcast is a joint US and China production, co-starring Liu Yifei and Hayden Christensen.
Cage said: ‘I hope that we will see more Chinese actors in American cinema, too. We do see Gong Li, Zhang Ziyi and Chow Yun Fat, but it’s very rare to see the Chinese male actor in Hollywood movies, which is something I take great umbrage with.’

The “Leaving Las Vegas” star, who has an eight-year-old son, Kal-El with his Korean-American wife Alice Kim, added: “My son is Asian. He may want to direct one day; he may want to be an actor like his father – and I want that to be open to him.
‘So I want to make some kind of effort to see more of that happen in Hollywood.’

Cage was still sporting his long, flowing hair extensions, pulled back into a ponytail as he flew into Los Angeles. The star hid his thinning crown under a white trilby hat but his beard was thick and unkempt.

He looked comfy in blue jeans, a black sweatshirt and a fashionably shabby black leather jacket as he made his way through the airport.
“Outcast” is Nic’s first film in China, but he told CCTV he hoped to be back with another project. “I want to work with a Chinese director and Chinese actors. If there’s something that makes sense for a white guy like me, I’d like to do that here in China.

“I would like to make a movie with (Chinese actor) Tony Leung, but I don’t know how to do it.”
Action adventure “Outcast”) tells of 12th century crusaders in east Asia, and their relationships with a Chinese prince and princess. It is due for release in the US next year. – Daily Mail.
