Chegutu RDC chairperson, Councillor Tendai Gwinji revealed the impending development to Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland West, Mary Mliswa-Chikoka during a briefing ceremony held before the handover of 29 motorbikes purchased for councillors by the council.

Said Cllr Gwinji: “We have been allocated land together with Chegutu Municipality amounting to 1 176 hectares for a new Chegutu town. We are on the planning stage,” he said.

The two councils according to the Rural District and Urban Councils’ Acts have set up a six-member joint committee.

The motorbikes, said Cllr Gwinji will enable the councillors to visit all the parts of their respective wards to spearhead Covid-19 vaccination awareness.

Chegutu RDC’s acting chief executive officer, Mr Admire Machingura said the council had purchased the motorbikes using its own funds at a cost of $3,4 million.
