NetOne has donated goods and foodstuffs worth thousands of dollars to Queen of Peace Orphanage in Gweru.

The goods comprised of 20 bunk beds, 100 blankets, 100 sheets, 100 bed covers, 40 pillows, three wheel chairs and an assortment of foodstuffs.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, NetOne chief executive officer Mr Lazarus Muchenje said NetOne was a community oriented organisation which would always strive to improve the welfare of the people of Zimbabwe.

“NetOne is a community-oriented organisation and we would like the people to know that they are not alone, NetOne cares for them.

“We remain rooted in the communities and NetOne will always strive to improve the welfare of the people of Zimbabwe. We are indeed the network that cares and we will continue to be part of this institution,” he said.

Mr Muchenje said it was NetOne’s hope to make every orphan’s life comfortable at the orphanage.

“The needs at the institution are numerous but the area that needed urgent attention was the bedding and linen area and the mobility of the disabled few here. The state of the beds and mattresses was not good. I asked my team to do a need analysis and when I saw the beds, my heart was moved. Having a good place to sleep can make one’s life a little brighter and inspire people to greatness.

“NetOne’s hope is to make every orphan’s life at the orphanage as homely as possible with the belief that it will translate to fulfilling lives,” he said.

Mr Muchenje said NetOne would look at more sustainable projects so that the institution becomes less dependent on donors. He urged other corporates to come on board and support such institutions.

Queen of Peace Orphanage was established in January 2006 and its main aim is to reduce vulnerability of mentally challenged people and children in difficult circumstances.
