At the Gallery
The National continues to be a nurturing ground for young aspiring artist as it hosted host a five day Kids Art Camp at the Gallery. The Kids Art Camp is held every year during the April, August and December holidays and it is open to students between the ages of 5 to 18 years of age. It provides children with a space in which to gain knowledge of the arts and develop their visual creative abilities under the guidance of experienced visual arts mentors in a gallery environment.

The Kids Art camp is a fun and fantastic way to build up skills and knowledge on a five day art camp experience. The programmes for the art camp are age specific and build on knowledge and skill, extending the children’s opportunity to discover new concepts.

The art camp is designed to adopt a formal approach with regards to the instruction of students as it takes into account the needs of the student’s full-time commitments to mainstream academic pursuits in the school curriculum whilst offering a practical bypass to help relieve the pressures of learning.

Each day of camp new topics are introduced as well as building on skills and techniques from the day before. Students are instructed and guided by practicing art instructors in the creation of expressionistic pictures in oil, acrylic or pencil crayon.

They also learn about colour mixing through tissue paper collages, paint and magic markers. The camp serves to create a space in which young people can gain knowledge of visual arts, develop their visual creative abilities through fun experiences which makes their grasp of the discipline more memorable.

During the camp, students explore different mediums of art including painting, drawing and various crafts. At the end of the art camp, students are awarded certificates and prizes in recognition of their talent. Primary school students attend the camp from 9am to 1pm daily, while high school students attend from 9am to 3pm daily.

The Kids Art Camps offers children the opportunity to draw, paint, sculpt and do some digital work as well, based on several themes as well as some of the upcoming exhibitions at the Gallery in December. It is also important to attend as children get art education and mentorship from professional artists.

Registration fee for the art camp is $30 only and all materials are provided for the students with the kind support of La Rue. The registration fee is also inclusive of refreshments over the five day course and commemorative t-shirts were also available for $5.

Art camp is fun and will offer young aspiring artists a platform to be creative. It is an artistic way to spend holiday time.

Participants receive prizes in their various age groups. The holiday art camp takes place during the penultimate weeks of the April and August school holidays.

Campers will enjoy rotating through a variety of holiday art media and projects. They will also be inspired by running exhibitions, revel in hands-on experiments and learning activities and learn to problem-solve with confidence.
