The National Manpower Advisory Council (NAMACO) will next week hold its annual congress in Kadoma to deliberate on the challenges facing the development of human resources in Zimbabwe.

The congress, whose theme is “Empowering Human Capital for Transforming and Growing the Economy”, is being held at a time Zimbabwe is grappling with the implementation of its economic blueprint, Zim-Asset, in pursuit of a new trajectory of accelerated economic growth and wealth creation.

The congress will be officially opened by the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development, Dr Olivia Muchena.

NAMACO chairperson Commissioner Tendai Bare said in a statement that the three-day annual congress commencing on Wednesday next week will be focusing on the development of the economy.

“We are expected to unleash concrete resolutions that will further enhance Zimbabwe’s thrust towards the development of a competitive human capital for all the sectors of the economy,” he said.

“The congress will not be a talk show, but will definitely provide practical solutions to the big challenge of skills and competency gaps as experienced by industry.”

During last year’s congress, NAMACO made several critical resolutions including the recommendation of the establishment of a national human resources survey, the setting up of support structures for nanotechnology scientists, and promote the use of such technologies in bringing about food security and improvements in the health, social and economic welfare of the people of Zimbabwe.

NAMCO is a public-private sector partnership which was established by an Act of Parliament, and is charged with the responsibility of making investigations and recommendations on its own initiative or by request to the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development on any matter affecting human capital development and training.
