Zanu-PF candidate for Mwenezi East Cde Joosbi Omar has partnered communities in his constituency to rehabilitate 12 dip tanks that have been lying idle for the past 10 years.

The exercise is being done using proceeds from the Constituency Development Fund.

Villagers in Neshuro have heaped praise on Cde Omar for the initiative, with work already underway at some of the dip tanks.

The poor state of dip tanks in some parts of the vast constituency had ignited widespread concern among villagers of possible disease outbreak in the major cattle producing area.

Cde Omar, who is seeking to retain the Mwenezi East Nati0nal Assembly seat said the few functional dip tanks in his constituency were being overwhelmed by the high number of cattle in the area.

“The constituency was fortunate to benefit from Government’s CDF and we have covered a lot of ground in developing infrastructure.

“We are working on rehabilitating 12 dip tanks across eight wards in Mwenezi East,” said Cde Omar.

He said the rehabilitation exercise in wards 3, 4, 13 and 18 was expected to be completed within the next two weeks as work was already underway to repair collapsed concrete walls and fencing poles.

The zanu-pf Mwenezi East National Assembly candidate hailed villagers in his constituency for supporting developmental projects in their areas and called them to be pro-active to bring development in their communities.

“The villagers are providing labour under the supervision of officials from the Department of Veterinary Services.

“We are working on non-functional dip tanks that were identified by the Veterinary Department, which are mostly concentrated in the remote Matibi and Muzhanjire areas.”

Cde Omar said livestock diseases posed a serious threat to cattle in Mwenezi District, which is a major source of beef in Masvingo Province.

Besides repairing dip tanks, the Mwenezi East zanu-pf National Assembly candidate has also channelled some of the CDF funds towards installation of drainage culverts pipes on a number of roads, while at least 27 satellite schools in the district have been furnished using part of the funds.

Mwenezi District Administrator Ms Rosemary Chingwe hailed Cde Omar for properly using CDF funds by initiating life-changing projects for the local community.

Masvingo Provincial Affairs Minister Senator Josaya Hungwe has already lauded Mwenezi East for being the best constituency in terms of effectively using CDF funds.

“I am happy with Cde Omar in Mwenezi East.

“A team from Parliament doing CDF audits has rated him as the best MP on the effective utilisation  of CDF and I challenge others to do the same,” said Sen Hungwe.
