Leader of Zion Christian Church (ZCC) Bishop Dr Nehemiah Mutendi has applauded Zimbabweans for ensuring a peaceful transition of power without bloodshed.

He said “Operation Restore Legacy” led by the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) rescued the country’s values and ethos. Addressing thousands of youths who converged for a youth conference held at Mutendi High School over the weekend, Bishop Mutendi congratulated Zimbabweans for being peaceful.

“I want to congratulate the people of Zimbabwe on reaching this stage where a smooth transition of power was achieved. Together you consolidated democracy and brought a fresh start for all Zimbabweans, while fostering peace and unity,” he said. Bishop Mutendi urged the youths to stay positive, while warning them against taking illicit drugs some of which are behind a surge in diseases such as HIV and Aids.

“If we can build a better and prosperous Zimbabwe in this new era, our youths should refrain from doing bad. Shun drug abuse and do not succumb to peer pressure and take part in development,” he said. Bishop Mutendi said Zimbabwe’s issues did not warrant foreign intervention.

“Zimbabwe is not in any crisis that warrants foreign intervention and as such there is no need to intervene in politics of our own. We, however, need foreign countries to come for trade and investment,” he said. Bishop Mutendi took time to encourage the youths to register as voters ahead of next year’s harmonised elections. Agriculture, Lands and Rural Resettlement Deputy Minister Davis Marapira also attended the conference.
