MASVINGO City Council’s deputy engineer Mr Edward Mukaratirwa has been appointed acting town clerk with effect from September 1.

The city has already started hunting for a substantive town clerk.

Eng Mukaratirwa will replace the outgoing long-serving town clerk Mr Adolf Gusha, who had served council for the past 32 years, and won numerous service delivery awards on behalf of the local authority during his tenure.

Eng Mukaratirwa holds a BSC Honours Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Zimbabwe and other administrative qualifications.

Prior to joining Masvingo City Council in 2011 as deputy engineer, Eng Mukaratirwa worked as a water engineer for Gweru City Council in 2002 and engineer for Gutu Rural District Council for four years. Mr Gusha’s departure as town clerk was announced during a special full council meeting held on August 22.

Masvingo Mayor Councillor Collen Maboke confirmed the appointment of Eng Mukaratirwa, whose wealth of experience has convinced both council management and councillors.

“Eng Mukaratirwa will with effect from September 1, 2019 become the Acting Town Clerk for Masvingo,” he said.

“He replaces Mr Gusha, who was substantive town clerk since 2004.

“Council and the entire staff applaud Mr Gusha’s contribution during his tenure of office. He spearheaded numerous developmental projects for the city, including road rehabilitation, water and sewer augmentation, housing, among others. We wish him the best in his retirement.”

During the special meeting, Eng Mukaratirwa expressed optimism that he would deliver as acting town clerk.
