ZIMBABWE international midfielder Denver Mukamba is trying his luck at SuperSport United and, in the event he impresses the coach, could move to Matsatsansa as part of a loan deal from his parent club Bidvest Wits.
Wits extended Mukamba’s contract by another year, a few weeks ago, but while they can’t guarantee him game time, they are unwilling to let him go because they believe he is a raw diamond that only needs to be polished.

Mukamba’s management team, who are keen on having the player playing more regularly next season, even tried to get their player released by Wits who flatly refused saying they still wanted the former Dynamos talisman on their books. Wits, though, are prepared to loan Mukamba to another Premiership team that can guarantee him more playing time and, as of now, SuperSport United appear to be that team.

“Mukamba is on trials with us since last week. At the moment I can’t divulge whether he will be signed but he is showing great character and enthusiasm,” said SuperSport United coach Calvin Johnson. “Since coming here I’m delighted with what I have seen from the Zimbabwean player, his advantage is that he is not new to the PSL as he spent some time with Wits and he also plays for his country which is fantastic.”

Johnson said he is still monitoring Mukamba’s progress and has not yet made his final decision but will give a full report about the trial outcome in a few days’ time.

Mukamba’s manager Gibson Mahachi told The Herald yesterday that the midfielder will remain a Wits player.

He dismissed reports that Mukamba had been dumped by Wits.

“We discussed the issue of game time for Denver with Wits because we feel that he needs some game time next season and while they could not provide any guarantees, they were very clear that they will not release him because they see a lot of potential in the player,” said Mahachi.

“He is at SuperSport United and the whole idea is that he is trying to get a team where he can get more game time and, hopefully, things will work out but I have to make it clear that whatever deal that will be made will be a loan arrangement with Wits still holding on to the player’s rights. “As I am speaking to you, Wits are working on ensuring that Denver’s work permit is renewed and clubs don’t do that for players that they have off-loaded.” Meanwhile, Soccer-Laduma reported yesterday that Moroka Swallows coach Zeca Marques, has made up his decision that he won’t offer Rodreck Mutuma a contract at the Dube Birds.

Mutuma spent 10 days trying his luck at Swallows but it now appears he might have to settle for a reunion with his DeMbare teammates unless something crops up.
