ORGANISERS of the Mr Pace Chitungwiza Gofit half-marathon and aerobics have moved the event to next month after failing to meet the numbers they were targeting.

The event that was scheduled for Chitungwiza was being organised by Mr Pace Athletics Club and Gofit.

They had hoped for 250 participants but they got way less than that by the close of registration on Thursday.

They were set to hold a half-marathon, which was going to be the main event, 5km fun run and an aerobics session.

Mr Pace club chairperson, Collen Makaza, said they are postponing the event to December 4 and instead of a half-marathon, they will have a 10km race.

“We had targeted October 30 as the deadline for registration and we had to extend to November 4 but there was a low turnout. The numbers were very low although we had secured sponsors for the race.

“There have been a number of races of late, so it might also have affected this race. We are also only paying the top three and athletes weigh their options because making top three is difficult unlike when you are rewarding top five or top 10.

“We are now going to have a 10km race instead of 21km and the 5km fun run. There is also going to be an aerobics session,” said Makaza.

Makaza said they are also going add a number of events including a sprint challenge since they are also going to celebrating their 14th anniversary as a club.
