MOTORSPORT action returns to Donnybrook in Harare on Sunday, with the running of the Shield Raceday and Grand Prix. This is the fourth round of the 2015 National Main Circuit Racing Series and should attract a full field from Harare and Bulawayo.Practice starts at 9:30am with racing proper taking off from 11:30am.

Barney Rogers is quickly establishing himself as the one to beat in both the unlimited sports cars in his triple rotary super 7 and in the unlimited saloon cars in his similarly powered Mitsubishi Lancer.

In the unlimited sports cars Eric Heard is making his first appearance in his recently overhauled Yamaha powered super 7 and will be hoping to give Rogers a run for his money ahead of school boy Fanie vd Linde.

In the unlimited saloon cars fast Kevin Almark in his turbo Escort will be out to show that his good showing at the last meeting wasn’t all due to others mechanical misfortunes, whilst Rowan Whyte and veteran Richard Robinson will be back with determination after suffering mechanical maladies the last time out.

In the Class B saloons, Ian Howden should dominate while flying the flag for the race day sponsors in his Shield sponsored Ford Fiesta. This vehicle has been completely redone and may pose a problem for some of the cars in the bigger class. Once again the most exciting racing should come from the class C saloons where any one of the six cars can easily take the honours.

Front runners Gary Flack, Nick Berkau, Steve Murton, Mike Exton and Craig Green will be joined by new boy, drag king, Mano Zevgolis, who will be keen to show that his skills are not limited to dragging.

The Open motorcycle class should be taken by veteran Phil Archenoul although Bulawayo’s Ian Gutherless, who is recovering from an accident, may have other ideas. Les Carlson and Uli Meiners are always very quick and on the right day can give the rest a run for their money.

This class always attracts a large field from Harare and Bulawayo as well as the Vic Rich Racing team from South Africa.

In the Megelli class, former South African Superbikes champion Shaun Whyte is unbeatable when he is on top of his game.

The final race of the day is the Shield Grand Prix and should attract a field of at least 25 cars. As this is a handicap event the racing should be close and exciting.

There are full bar and catering facilities as well as children’s entertainment.

Entry is $5 per person, with kids under 12 getting in for free.
