Northern Region Division One side Chegutu Pirates.
And Chasweka, nicknamed Gwejegweje because of his slim body during his playing days at Black Aces and Chapungu in the 1980s and 1990s, has found a new lease of life as a coach at Grinovich. Now walking with a limp after a horrific road accident which nearly cost him his life in Botswana a couple of years ago, Chasweka has propelled Grinovich to the top of the Con-Plant Technology Zifa Highfield Area Zone league table where they are unbeaten after 22 rounds of matches this season.
Under the guidance of their Mbare-born coach Chasweka, Grinovich have won 19 matches, drawing three times in the 22 matches they have played so far this season in which they have scored a massive 72 goals and conceding only 14. Grinovich, who are eyeing a place in the Northern Region Division One league next season, are enjoying a cushion eight-point lead over their nearest rivals Murray & Roberts at the top of the table.
In fact, there are no reverse fixtures in the zone’s championship race because of too many knockout competitions that are also played in this league. All teams in the 26-team league play a total 25 matches and Grinovich need to win their next match to clinch the championship title and probably start making preparations to play in the Northern Region Division One next year. A win in their next league match will give Grinovich an unassailable points tally of 63 as their nearest rivals Murray & Roberts will only amass a total 61 points if they win their remaining three matches in the championship race.
