A local business executive has urged punters to continue supporting charity casinos all over the country so as to enable disadvantaged members of society to benefit financially.

Speaking during a thank you party for its customers at Wing Wah Restaurant in Harare on Friday, Montclair Casino chief executive officer Mr Lewis Chasakara said many charitable organisations in the country are facing financial challenges owing to the harsh economic environment.

He said from January this year, his casino distributed cash to eight charities like schools, clinics, hospitals, orphanages, disadvantaged individuals with ailments that require specialist treatment abroad.

“The whole nation is constrained financially and it is actually worse to those who depend on donations. We have since the beginning of this year assisted eight charities. Today as we unveil a new uniform, we want to thank you our partners, please continue playing casino so that the disadvantaged members of our society benefit.

“Montclair Charity Casino forwards 40 percent of all its collections to charity organisations unlike other casinos whose entire proceeds go to the hotel. We aim to help more than 16 charities by year end and it is through your participation as our customers that will enable us to achieve this goal,” he said.

Mr Chasakara said every 21 days his company received names of charities from the gaming board who need assistance where they hand over $5 000 to $25 000 to needy charities around the country.

He said his company also assists individuals who require financial assistance to undergo specialist treatment in South Africa and India. The names for the needy charities and individuals were supplied by the gaming board which is managed by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
