girls in a stiff competition which saw regular models such as former Miss Tourism Harare 2009 Samantha Dika and Miss H-Metro Caroline Musarurwa taking part.

Nyasha, who wore a backless gold evening gown, shed tears of joy during the crowning ceremony and appeared shocked when her name was announced.
“I am shocked and excited at the same time. It is a dream come true for me and I will serve the title with honour. I didn’t it expert it because of the stiff competition. All the girls looked beautiful,” she said.

Nyasha, who is studying public relations with the University of South Africa sailed through the question and answer segment without any problem. Asked if her life would change if she won the Miss Global International title, Nyasha said she would go all out to change the negative perception that the world had about Zimbabwe.

“First and foremost, I would start with my home country, where people should appreciate beauty pageants. To the world I would change their negative perception about Zimbabwe.”

Indeed, she managed to convince the judges that she was not only beautiful but was intelligent as well. For winning the title, Nyasha walked away with fabulous prizes courtesy of several sponsors that included G-Tel, Goldtech Electronics, Steve Margolis Resort Centre and Astra Paints among others.

The newly crowned queen is set to represent the country in Jamaica at the Miss Global International pageant in September.
Crowd favourite Michelle Munyanduki (21) was voted Miss International Zimbabwe while 14-year-old Lyshanda Moyas clinched the Princess Miss Global Zimbabwe title.

The pageant had three categories, namely Greek wear, swimwear and nightwear. According to the pageant director Tare Munzara, the reason why they held the swimwear segment in front of the audience was to ensure that the girls adapt to such an environment, since the segment is part and parcel of beauty pageants the world over.

“At the world pageant, the models walk on ramp with their swimwear during the introductory segment. We saw it vital for Zimbabwe to adapt to such situations so that they will not be surprised when they asked to take part in the segment,” he said.

Well-known fashion designer and director of Miss Global South Africa Trish Carmen, Miss Global Botswana Rita George, Miss Global South Africa Pearl Mthembu and her princess Buhle Gani and Naledi Okuhle Heisi as well as Harare’s top socialite Genius Kadungure of Pioneer Gases were among the celebrity guests.

Last year Mutsa Mutare clinched the coveted title and represented Zimbabwe at the Miss Global International held in Jamaica, where she made it into the top 15.
