Mukudzei Chingwere in GWERU
MIGHTY Warriors technical advisor Tavaka Gumbo has said it will be virtually impossible for them not to win this year’s edition of the COSAFA Women’s Championship that roars into life tomorrow in Bulawayo. The gaffer said their preparations were flawless.

Zimbabwe are in Group A that features Madagascar, Zambia and Malawi and their first match is tomorrow against Madagascar.

The next one is against Zambia before they complete their campaign against Malawi.

Poor preparations have in the past haunted the Mighty Warriors.

This time the Mighty Warriors had prepared better for the tournament they are hosting after they were also housed at the luxurious Yadah Hotel using its top-notch training facilities availed to them by ZIFA partner Walter Magaya.

Last time Magaya chipped in to help the Warriors by accommodating the team at his complex ahead of the 2019 AFCON qualifier against Liberia. The Warriors won 3-0.

Magaya also hosted the Warriors ahead of their COSAFA Senior Challenge Cup campaign.

The Mighty Warriors entourage had a stopover in Gweru on their way to Bulawayo for the regional games and The Herald caught up with their technical advisor Gumbo who tipped the team for a podium finish.

“We are favourites to win the Cup and I am confident we will not disappoint and we will win the trophy, we have a very talented group of players.

“We have a very good team with young players who are hungry for success. They will take the opportunity to shine at an international stage. “We prepared very well for the championships and it is not possible for us to disappoint. We have a motivated group of players and everyone is raring to go. The mood in camp is very encouraging.

“We are not relying on home advantage but the quality of our players, remember the new rules are that we are not allowed to have a feel or train at match venues before match days so no one is at an advantage.

“We hope the supporters will come in their numbers to help us during matches and I can promise those who will come to support us that we will not disappoint them,” said Gumbo. The senior women’s side are the current champions in the region and the Mighty Warriors will be hoping to emulate their male counterparts.
