MBARE Select Rugby Academy senior player Prosper Kahwema believes it’s high time they won the Exide Sevens Series tournament after  finishing second and third in the opening two editions.

Kahwema’s team will be part of 12 sides that will do battle in the third edition of the Chloride sponsored tournament at Belgravia Sports Club this afternoon.

Mbare believe they have what it takes especially when competing with well-resourced clubs like Old Georgians, Harare Sports Club, XP Horns among several others.

“Our team focuses on development and we are happy with the progress we have made so far. We face several challenges but most of our players soldier on for them to get recognition.

“Some parents discourage kids to take part in the sport but those who appreciate the coach’s effort are very supportive.

“As a club which has Under-14, 16, 18 and the seniors some of our players whom we would have groomed are taken away by well-established club for free. We are always on the receiving end,” said Kahwema.

Mbare Select have been doing well in sevens after they lost the summer series finals 21-19 to Harare Sports Club before they were runners-up in the opening match and later finished third in the same tournament.

The team has also managed to produce talented players like Arkim Biki who is plying his trade in Zambia, Takudzwa Francisco and Tendai Muringani among  others.

They are under the guidance of Cheetahs international Stephan Hunduza.
