Mbanje lands man in trouble While mbanje is not the most dangerous drug on the market, there is the fact that most people who smoke it are far more like a seriously heavy drinker or alcoholic than the normal light social drinker. This is the main ground for maintaining the ban.

A Chitungwiza man has been fined $300 for assaulting a security guard who denied him a request to smoke mbanje in one of the buildings he was guarding. Bright Soda (29) was convicted by Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Francis Mapfumo on his own plea of guilty.

Soda risks serving four months in prison if he fails to pay the fine.
Prosecutor Mr Tatenda Mukatera told the court that on April 19, at around 12 noon, Samuel Chikonodanga, who is employed by Greater Security at Makoni Shopping Centre, was at his workplace when Soda visited.

Soda attempted to smoke dagga inside of one of the buildings Chikonodanga was guarding, but he was denied entry.
The court heard that Soda became agitated and assaulted the security guard, who sustained a chipped tooth as a result of the attack. Soda was arrested after a report was made.

Meanwhile, another Chitungwiza man was fined $150 for stealing a tombstone.
Godfrey Vhinyu appeared before magistrate Mr Francis Mapfumo charged with theft.
He pleaded guilty and was ordered to pay a $150 fine, failure of which he will spend two months in jail.

Appearing for the State, Mr Tatenda Mukatera proved that on April 16 this year, Roley Mavesere discovered that a tombstone had been stolen at his workplace.

He made some enquiries and was told that Vhinyu had stolen the stone in the company of two other people.
When Mavesere confronted Vhinyu, the latter admitted to stealing the tombstone.
A police report was made, leading to Vhinyu’s arrest.
