MARONDERA Rural District Council has constructed two new schools in areas that once had none, built a clinic and also drilled a borehole using devolution funds.

Marondera RDC has 23 wards and from wards 10 to 23 there are no health facilities and in resettlement areas there is limited number of schools, hence selection of projects is biased towards those areas.

Marondera RDC chief executive officer Mr Tichafara Gundo said they allocated devolution funds to different wards according to their needs which is in line with Vision 2030, to transform Zimbabwe into an upper middle class economy.

“We sat down with our councillors and allocated devolution funds to the wards according to their needs, in ward 1 we managed to build a new secondary school called Grand Chase after we realised that learners are traveling 12 km to the nearest school,” he said. “In ward 2 in the resettlement areas we built a new primary school called Mandoga where learners were using a farm house as a classroom”.

Mr Gundo added that in ward 10 they managed to build a new clinic and houses for staff called Chakadini Clinic.

“In ward 10 we built new clinic called Chakadini and houses of staff using devolution funds with the aid of community and members from Zimbabwe National Army,” said Mr Gundo.

“The clinic is going serve more than 1 000 people who used to walk for about 10 km to the nearest clinic which is Madamombe clinic.”

Mr Gundo said so far this year they have received $26 million which they used to build the schools, clinics and also drill a solar-powered borehole.
