A Harare man yesterday appeared in court facing allegations of stealing over a tonne of kapenta fish and other goods worth US$11 000 from a warehouse in Ruwa.
Alfred Sibanda (28) appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Douglas Chikwekwe facing plain robbery charges.
Prosecutor Tungamirai Chakurira alleges that around midnight on March 28, 2014 Alfred Sibanda and five others who were still at large, ambushed Job Ndlovu, a security guard manning a Ruwa Properties shop.
The gang reportedly struck the guard on the head using an iron bar before tying his hands and legs.

After overpowering the guard, the gang went on to ransack the warehouse before loading the loot into a getaway Mazda T35 truck. The gang sped off from the scene.
A report was made at Highlands police station leading to the arrest of Alfred Sibanda on April 2 at a Mbare retail market where he runs a kapenta selling business.

Goods stolen included over 1 763 kg of kapenta, 113 kg dried fish, 8 dressed chickens, 30kg beef, a bag and a home theatre system .
Ndlovu positively identified Sibanda, who has dreadlocks, as one of the robbers.

Sibanda was remanded in custody to April 25.
Mr Chikwekwe advised him to apply for bail at the high court.
