Akim died on the spot.

After committing the crime, Mushandira (34) handed himself over to the police.
Acting Masvingo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nkululeko Nduna yesterday said Mushandira was in custody and would be charged with murder.

He said Mushandira handed himself over to police at Chikato in Mucheke moments after committing the grisly murder accusing his ex-wife of being a prostitute.
“The suspect told his ex-wife that he was killing her because he wanted to punish her for being a prostitute and after stabbing and leaving her intestines protruding he then handed himself over to police,’’ said Asst Insp Nduna.

He said on the fateful day, Mushandira who also stayed in Mucheke A suburb went to his ex-wife’s house at around 9pm and found her in the company of her new lover.
Mushandira and Akim’s new lover allegedly went outside the house and spoke briefly before the new lover returned and locked the door from inside.

After a few minutes, Mushandira started banging the door where Akim, her lover and sister were, and used a brick to break one of the window panes.
Mushandira then allegedly gained entry into the house through the broken windowpane, prompting Akim’s lover to flee.

He then allegedly grabbed Akim by the collar and took a kitchen knife which he used to stab her three times on the back and once on the stomach and she died on the spot.
Mushandira then handed himself over to police at Chikato while Akim’s body was taken to Masvingo General Hospital morgue.
