A 33-year-old man was fatally assaulted by two men who had accused him of causing their vehicle to be involved in a road traffic accident along the Zvishavane-Mbalabala Road.

The suspects, who are still at large, were travelling in a Toyota Quantum vehicle and following behind the victim’s car, a Mazda Bongo, when the incident occurred on May 17.

It is alleged that the victim, Never Sibanda, saw some cattle crossing the road and stopped his vehicle before switching on the hazard lights.

The suspects, who were travelling behind, then overtook his vehicle before they hit one of the cattle.

They then assaulted Sibanda, accusing him of causing the road traffic accident. Sibanda died on Monday due to injuries sustained during the attack.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said they had since launched a manhunt for the two suspects.

“Police in Bulawayo are investigating a murder case in which Never Sibanda aged 33 died on May 30, 2022 after he was assaulted with booted feet and fists all over the body by Anesu Chimanikire aged 33 and his accomplice who is still at large on May 17, 2022 along Zvishavane-Mbalabala Road,” he said.

“The suspect and his accomplice accused the victim of causing a road traffic accident in which the suspect who was driving a Toyota Quantam vehicle hit a heifer along the road.

“The complainant, who was driving a Mazda Bongo vehicle had stopped along the road and turned on hazard lights to allow the cattle to cross, but the suspect did not stop.”

Asst Comm Nyathi appealed to anyone with information that might lead to the arrests of the suspects to contact any nearest police station.
