THE pair of highly-rated Zimbabwean boxers Farai Makombe and Ndodana Ncube are on a mission to galvanize their good records when they face-off against Malawian boxers in Lilongwe, Malawi on Sunday.

The duo, together with their manager/coach Clyde Musonda, are expected to leave the capital this morning and arrive in Malawi tonight ahead of weigh-in at the venue of the contest M1 Centre Point tomorrow.

Makombe takes on Mussa Mkwanda in a super-middle-weight duel while Ncube makes another date against Israel Kumwamba in the light-weight division.

Ncube will be eager to avenge his points defeat against the same boxer who beat him the last time they met in Malawi.

The Zimbabwean will be facing the same boxer who clashed with his compatriot Aliya Phiri for the African Boxing Union (ABU) belt in December last year.

Phiri managed to sail through that fight, flooring his opponent and ensuring the belt remained in the country.

The 23-year-old Phiri has since defended the same stripes after pummeling out Tanzanian challenger Saidi Mkola last weekend.

And Ncube comes face-to-face with Kamwamba knowing fully well that the showdown has a star to be earned and a promotion to challenge for the ABU titles.

With one star under his belt, Ncube can become eligible to have a go at ABU titles if he wins the match against Kamwamba.

“I am fully aware of what this fight can do to my career. I am going all out in search of a win and the victory will change the trajectory of my career,” said Ncube.

“I know it is not going to be very easy but I will put my hands on the deck and try to be brave. I have faced my opponent before so I have unfinished business with him.”

On the other hand, Makombe wants to stretch his solid 3-0 record further.

The 25-year-old pugilist, who turned professional recently, has won all his three fights, two of which against Malawian boxers by Knock-Outs.

And he is primed to reach 10-0 and start challenging for weighty belts.

“Makombe is a good fighter and his 3-0 record all of which by Kos isn’t a fluke. We are heading to Malawi very confident that he will be able to win his bout,” said Musonda.

“We are aiming to reach a record of 10-0 after which we will start entering title fights. He is very talented and the ultimate aim is to win the WBC stripes.”
