NEWBOYS Border Strikers finally got it right when they registered their first win in the Castle Lager Premiership by beating Tsholotsho at Maglas yesterday.

It was also the first time the Beitbridge-based side scored a goal past their opponents, something they had failed to do in the opening seven matches of the season.

One had to forgive the players, their technical team, executive and fans for celebrating the goal as if they had won the league. It was a goal that brought hope to the team after two months of firing blanks.

Prince Sibanda scored the priceless goal in the 55th minute, but Kwekwe-based referee Munyaradzi Majoni credited it to Kudzanayi Kwashi.

Majoni, however, had a good afternoon despite robbing Sibanda of his goal. Video replays showed Sibanda scoring the goal.

A corner kick by Tafadzwa Jaravani from the right was flighted into the box and Kwashi’s scorcher was too hot to handle for the Tsholotsho goalkeeper Mariyon Chang.

The alert Sibanda then slotted the spill home with the visitors defenders ball watching.

The players then ran straight to their technical bench to celebrate with coach Saul Chaminuka.

“It was my first goal in my entire career since 2006 when I played for Railstars. I think I am going to score more goals.”
