DYNAMOS forward Roderick Mutuma has resumed training and is likely to return for the blockbuster Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match against Highlanders at Rufaro on Saturday.

Mutuma, who injured his ankle two weeks ago during a league match against FC Platinum, trained fully with the rest of his teammates yesterday in preparation for the big game.

DeMbare interim head coach Lloyd Mutasa was excited by the prospects of having the 27-year-old forward back in the team after he had missed the Glamour Boys’ trip to Bulawayo last weekend.

Mutuma was grounded with a swollen ankle when DeMbare went to Barbourfields and beat Tsholotsho 1-0 on Saturday. However, the self-styled “Prince” could be up for selection as he has recovered.

“Roderick started training on Monday but he is still under assessment by the doctors. We will see how he progresses but today (yesterday) he trained well with the rest of the squad.

“He is a seasoned player and it’s always good to have a fit Roderick in the squad. He is an experienced player and we need him,” said Mutasa.

The return of Mutuma boosts options for the DeMbare technical team. They have reported a clean bill of health, obviously with the exception of former Highlanders winger Valentine Ndaba who is still recovering from wounds he sustained in a road accident.

The Harare giants are looking to put their campaign back on track following a poor start this year.

DeMbare are back at their favourite hunting ground — Rufaro — after making a spectacular U-turn on their decision to abandon the venue following the mayhem that engulfed their last match at home.

The Harare giants got themselves in trouble after their supporters engaged in running battles with the police after the team had lost 1-0 to FC Platinum.

However, Dynamos president Kenny Mubaiwa yesterday insisted that the former league champions would not dump their fortress for the giant National Sports Stadium in the wake of the mayhem that followed their defeat by FC Platinum at the old Mbare venue.

Mubaiwa said they will continue using Rufaro and will, instead, put in measures to fight the hooligan element that has characterised their last two big games at Rufaro against CAPS United and FC Platinum.

DeMbare were last week fined by the PSL for the behaviour of some of their supporters who rained missiles onto the pitch during the big Harare derby against CAPS United.

“Rufaro has always been our home. We are going to host Highlanders at Rufaro for the benefit of our supporters whom we want to come in large numbers. We are also not hiking the entry charges.

“The gate charges will remain $3 for the rest of the ground, $5 and $10.

“Football cannot be seen to be running away from the hooligans. Football should, in fact, find ways to fight hooliganism and eradicate it from our sport. Therefore as Dynamos we will not give in to hooligans and run away from our home ground. If anything, it’s hooliganism which has no place in football.

“We will continue to educate the supporters and we will also beef-up security at the match venue. Rufaro has always been the ideal and most convenient venue for our supporters because of its centrality,’’ Mubaiwa said.
