Bikita East National Assembly member Cde Johnson Madhuku (Zanu-PF) has embarked on developmental projects in his constituency in line with the clarion call by President Mnangagwa’s administration for the adoption of the Transitional Stabilisation Programme (TSP).

The TSP, which Government recently enunciated, entails spearheading targeted empowerment projects in all provinces with a view to jump-start the national economy.

Speaking to hundreds of ruling party supporters at Chikuku Business Centre during a rally to celebrate his victory in the July 30 harmonised elections, Cde Madhuku said the TSP would set the country’s economy on the road to recovery as Zimbabwe angles to attain upper-middle income status by 2030.

He announced a major infrastructural development programme targeting construction of roads, clinics and bridges and building of a new school.

“The objectives of this rally are to thank the people for voting for the revolutionary party during the harmonised elections won by Zanu-PF in July and also to deliberate on new projects for the constituency in line with the Transitional Stabilisation Programme,” said Cde Madhuku.

“The people voted resoundingly for Zanu-PF, hence we are now obliged to come back and thank them.

“Zanu-PF has a tried and tested crop of leaders who walk the talk on poll promises.

“I am sending trucks with quarry stones for the construction of Gomba Bridge and Gomba Primary School (Ward 20) at the border of Gutu East and Bikita East.

“Additional building material will soon be delivered to Nerumedzo in Ward 15 for the construction of a clinic and a road rehabilitation project at Negovano. I am also taking over some of the projects left by the former legislator for Bikita East, the late Cde Kennedy Matimba.”

Cde Madhuku said the economic challenges facing the nation were temporary and urged Zimbabweans to remain strong.

“Here we are telling the electorate to continue supporting the party,” he said.

“We are making headway despite a lot of challenges perpetrated by our political opponents.

“The new Government is saddled with sanctions, price hikes and so on. President Mnangagwa is fighting against so many forces. But things are stabilising.

“The issue of price hikes is a real war between the revolutionary party and the imperialists. MDC-Alliance president Mr Nelson Chamisa, at one point openly said “bikai zvenyu, but sadza racho tinoridira jecha”, which is a metaphorical statement implying that the opposition was planning to sabotage the new Government after losing elections.”

Cde Madhuku said the economic outlook remained bright despite the prevailing hardships.
