Sungura music ace Alick Macheso will on Sunday stage his debut show at Junction 24, as the venue continues to lure popular musicians for family shows.

Jah Prayzah recently staged a massive family show at Junction 24, which is located along Harare-Chitungwiza road and officials at the venue have indicated that more big names are coming for similar gigs.

Suluman Chimbetu who has previously performed at the venue, is expected to return for another family show soon while Oliver Mtukudzi is also on the organisers’ list.

Macheso’s manager Lucky Macheso said venturing into a new territory means reaching out to new audiences.

“We will obviously have the usual faces at the show because we have many loyal fans, but going to a new place means we will have new people coming to our show, which is good for our brand,” he said.

“I have heard about Junction 24 and shows that have been held there and I am confident that our first performance at the venue will be refreshing. We have held family shows at various venues in the capital and we know how to do it when we have fans of various ages in one show.”

Junction 24 director Tavepi Madzingira said this year they were targeting mega family shows that would bring the cream of local music to the venue. He said they were also considering having joint shows of big artistes to give their patrons the best entertainment.

“We are hoping to host all the big musicians in the country and we are also planning to bring a big foreign artiste this year,” he said.

“We previously had low-key performances for our traditional patrons, but this year we want to bring more people to the place and host big shows. We are looking forward to Sunday’s show when Macheso performs here for the first time.”

Meanwhile, Macheso performs at New Life Nightclub in Budiriro tonight when he is expected to share the stage with upcoming musicians.

Tomorrow the musician travels to Marondera for a show at Legends Bar. It will be his third show in the town this year and Lucky says they have been enjoying their shows in the Mashonaland East provincial capital.

“We have performed there twice this year and we were well-received at both shows. Marondera is a nice place and Legends Bar is a good venue. I think we failed to have many shows in the town because we could not find a good venue like this one. We are happy to return to Marondera and we will go there at every opportunity,” said Lucky.

“We promise our fans a memorable show once again. We have attracted full houses at the previous two shows and we know our fans are waiting for us once again. They always come in numbers. They are friendly and peaceful. We get encouraging feedback after every show in Marondera and we enjoy such interaction with fans.”

Legends Bar proprietor, Daniel Masaiti, said big artistes now have confidence in the venue, which has brought new entertainment life in Marondera.

“Most big artistes have performed here more than twice since we opened the place. It seems they were waiting for such a place where they can entertain their Marondera fans every time they get a chance.

“We are happy to host them here and we thank our patrons for supporting these musicians and giving them reasons to return for more shows,” he said.
