Lupane State University yesterday sent a message of condolence to the Bhala family following the death of the University’s Acting Vice Chancellor Dr Maclean Mackson Bhala.
In a statement, LSU described the late Dr Bhala as a humble man and veteran educationist. “Lupane State University is with the Bhala family in mourning this humble (and) gentle academician, administrator and veteran educationist,” said the university in a statement.

“May his dear soul rest in peace.”

Dr Bhala, who had a known heart problem, died at the age of 60 on Monday night at Mater Dei Hospital in Bulawayo where he had been rushed for a medical check-up.

“LSU Information and Public Relations Officer Mr Zwelithini Dlamini said Dr Bhala had been part of the institution since its inception.
“Dr Bhala started working at LSU in 2004 when he was part of the LSU founding committee member,” he said.

“In the same year he was elevated from being a founding member to being the director of LSU in preparation of the university’s first enrolment in 2005.

“He had been involved in the growth and expansion of LSU in the last 10 years when it started with its initial enrolment of 12 students to 3 500 students to date.”

Mr Bhala is survived by his wife, Dr Tryphine Bhala, six children and eight grand children.

Mourners are gathered at Number 11 Brahams Road, Barham Green in Bulawayo and funeral arrangements would be announced in due course.
