Zimbabwe National Army’s Lieutenant Colonel Clever Damison Idi has died. He was 50.Lt Col Idi died on November 22 at Army Headquarters Officer’s Mess and would be laid to rest at his rural home in Headlands, Chendambuya today.

Major General Douglas Nyikayaramba described the death of Lt Col Idi as a loss not only to ZNA but to the nation at large.
Speaking during Lt Col Idi’s funeral parade held at Commando Regiment, Maj-Gen Nyikayaramba said ZNA has lost a hardworking and dedicated cadre.

“Lt Col Idi completed several courses to enhance his command and administration skills during his time of service. He was awarded several medals for his dedication and exemplary service.

“On behalf of the general officers, senior officers, officers, men and women of ZNA and my own behalf I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family and relatives.

“His untimely death is saddening and painful not only to the family but to all peace loving Zimbabweans. He will be greatly missed,” he said.

Born on June 10, 1963 in Makoni district Ngurunda Village under Chief Makoni, Lt Col Idi did his primary education at Nyahowe and Mugoti primary schools.

He later proceeded to St Benedict’s Mission for his secondary education but dropped out in Form Three.

Lt Col Idi resumed his education after independence through correspondence.

He joined ZNA on October 1, 1982 as a second Lieutenant and served in 33 Infantry Battalion from 1982 to 1983 as a platoon commander before he became course officer, Zimbabwe Military Army from 1983 to 1987.

He served in various positions and was Army Headquarters Adjutant General’s pool at the time of his death. He is survived by his three children Lee-Ann (25), Chris (19) and John (11).
