LIVERPOOL. — Jurgen Klopp is determined to leave English Premiership soccer side Liverpool in a better state than when he arrived. The German, who succeeded Brendan Rodgers last October, wants to create a legacy the club can benefit from long after he leaves. Klopp has been busy this summer in overhauling the Reds squad as he looks to challenge for the Premier League title and accepts there is a lot of pressure resting on his shoulders.“When you sit in the main chair like I sit, you have a lot of power, but even more than that, you have all the responsibility,” he told Goal.

“And responsibility for me means it never ends, even when you leave. You need to create something where you can really be measured by even after you’ve gone. In football, it’s always about pressure and the next game, next game, next game. Somebody has to say ‘stop!’

“The next game will always come, but you need someone who thinks ‘what happens after the games?’

“It’s needs to be the manager, the man in the chair.

“You are so busy planning for the next game, but you also have to take the minutes to think and talk about changing the structure to make it more effective.

“Build this, improve that. I’m interested in everything, in the whole club and when I leave at some point, I don’t want people to celebrate me still, I only want that they can still feel the benefit of me being manager here.”

Klopp has also revealed he hopes to build a club that will no longer lose its best players to bigger sides.

The Reds have routinely been forced into the sale of their stars like recent departures Raheem Sterling and Luis Suarez, with said former Liverpool players wanting to move on to win silverware elsewhere.

Academy starlet Sterling joined Manchester City in a £50million deal last summer, but Klopp is eager to transform Liverpool into the destination club rather than a stepping stone to bigger things.

“I think we can do this. It’s one of the targets for the coming years,” Klopp said.

“There hasn’t been a successful team in world football who change their squad every year. You need to need your key players.

“That’s a very important thing. You have to create a situation where you are successful.

“A situation where everyone feels in a good way and we are strong enough and patient enough to keep them together. We say that same squad and consistency creates success.’

Good news for Liverpool fans, let’s hope Klopp can achieve his aim before Barcelona come calling for Philippe Coutinho.

Liverpool start the new Premier League campaign with a clash against Arsenal at the Emirates next Sunday.

Klopp will be looking to restore the Reds to the pinnacle of the English game, 26 years after their last top flight success.

Klopp has certainly made an impression since arriving at Anfield last October. And his charismatic persona has made him a Reds fans’ favourite. — The Daily Star.
