Kawondera on CAPS Utd, DeMbare radar Ralph Kawondera

FORMER Soccer Star of the Year finalist Ralph Kawondera is set for a possible return to Harare ahead of the 2024 season with giants CAPS United and Dynamos possible destinations.

The midfielder, who reinvented himself at Manica Diamonds last season with some stellar performances, is set to move following the expiry of his contract.

The attacking midfielder yesterday confirmed he had not renewed his contract although he was not keen to discuss the future.

“I had a one-year contract with Manica Diamonds and we haven’t agreed on an extension. Of course, I have received some offers but I am still weighing the options. I cannot discuss that right now,” he said.

But sources confirmed yesterday he has attracted interests from giants CAPS United and Dynamos, with GreenFuel also vying for the signature of the veteran midfielder.

Kawondera had his best season in 2019 when he made the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League best eleven, and finishing as the first runner-up, following a brilliant outing with Triangle.

He then moved to champions FC Platinum in 2020 and left at the end of 2021. He then played for Dynamos one season in 2022.

But the midfielder was largely anonymous in the Glamour Boys colours and was among the 13 players that left the Harare giants ahead of the 2023 campaign.

He found a home at Manica Diamonds after joining the Gem Boys on a one-year contract. Kawondera, who also previously had national team call ups for the CHAN tournament, was a vital cog in the Gem Boys campaign in which they finished second in the title race. He was the club’s second highest scorer with five goals to his name last season. Fortune Binzi was the team’s chief marksman with 10 goals.

But Kawondera finds himself on the move again as he could not agree on a contract extension with the Mutare-based side.

Of late, he has been a regular visitor at the Green Machine offices, fuelling speculation that the Harare giants could be his next destination. However, no comment could be obtained from the Green Machine.
