NEWLY formed karate-style Kyukushin-Budokan Zimbabwe successfully hosted their inaugural interactive seminar at Waterfalls District Hall at the weekend where they focussed more on the awareness of drug and alcohol abuse among the youth.

Led by Sempai Maxen Mudeto through his Team Max Hotpot Dojo School, they had interactions with karatekas and parents.

Mudeto said the first seminar of the year was aimed at encouraging budding athletes to take up the sport and fight against drug abuse and crime.

“We are grateful that we managed to hold our first seminar as a new karate style Kyukushin-Budokan. The seminar was attended by high-profile karateka’s and some aspiring athletes who are willing to join the sport.

“The sport is very important as it instils discipline, and it gives athletes an opportunity to shun drugs and alcohol abuse within the youths.

“There are a lot of challenges in terms of drug abuse among the youths and we successfully hosted the seminar, which was aimed at educating karatekas on discipline and abstinence from drug abuse.

“As a new organisation we hosted our first seminar at Waterfalls Hall aimed at educating karatekas on the effects of drug and alcohol abuse.

“We also emphasised on the need for discipline among athletes as they are known for fighting against crime. The seminar was attended by Zimbabwe Karate Union representatives.

“We had targeted a lot of participants from the age of three and we are expecting to have several shihans, sensei, and children from the age of three.

“The organisation looks forward to training more athletes who will go on to represent the country.

“We are happy with the support we got from the parents and the association as there was an impressive turn-out,” said Mudeto.
