CHICKEN Inn coach Joey Antipas says justice was delivered after his team was awarded the abandoned match against Dongo Sawmill which thrust them back on top of the log table.

The Gamecocks are back in charge with a two-point cushion after they were handed the match on a 3-0 scoreline by the Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee last week.

Dongo Sawmill were found guilty of causing the abandonment of the match between the sides at Luveve on June 27 when their medic was assaulted by Gamecocks’ goalkeepers’ coach Julius Ndlovu.

Chicken Inn were leading 1-0 at the time with about half an hour remaining.

Antipas said the delay in the conclusion of the matter had affected their campaign but is now happy they are on 43 points, two better than Triangle, who now slip into second place.

“It’s good to have the points. It has been a long wait and I am glad the waiting is finally over. We are relieved and this means we can now concentrate on football business without having to worry with what is happening in the boardroom.

“The good thing is that it puts us back on top of the table. But we would need to keep our focus in the remaining matches,” said Antipas. The Committee said the Premiership newcomers had to take the blame for the abandonment of the match.

“The question then is whether they were justified in abandoning the match? The Dongo FC officials agreed that security had been beefed up and that Chicken Inn medic and EMRAS had been approached to assist.

“Despite these efforts they refused to continue with the match. The referee, match officials and police did everything they could to ensure that they addressed all the concerns raised by the club.

“The club on the other hand was not appeased by any of the measures taken by the officials and the police.

Meanwhile, confusion continued to surround the Mighty Warriors’ 2016 Olympic Games qualifier with FIFA yesterday saying the senior national women’s team will play the second leg tie against Cote d’Ivoire at Rufaro on August 23.

CAF have already drawn Cote d’Ivoire among the winners of the previous round matches after the Mighty Warriors failed to travel for the first leg of the tie.

But FIFA yesterday named the match officials for a fresh game in Harare on August 23. It appears that the world football governing body might be setting a precedent where teams might not fulfil the first leg of their encounters, on the basis that they will lose that tie 0-3, and then try and win the home match by a bigger score.
