MDC-Alliance vice chairman and Zengeza West legislator Job Sikhala, who is facing subversion charges, courted more controversy when he threatened to unleash violence on the Government while addressing a handful of his supporters outside the Bikita Magistrates Court last Friday.

Sikhala, who earlier been indicted by Bikita magistrate Ms Caroline Tafira to stand trial at the Masvingo High Court in January next year, urged his party supporters to brace for more confrontation with the Government.
“Zimbabweans should brace for the biggest fight against the current system of dictatorship,” he said.

“The current Government is aiming to destroy every well-meaning opposition political player in the country and as the opposition, we are going to hold more demonstrations to remove the current dictatorship.”

Sikhala, who allegedly threatened to unseat President Mnangagwa’s constitutionally-elected Government, is expected to stand trial at the High Court from January 27 to 30 next year.
The Zengeza West parliamentarian is out on $5 000 bail coupled with stringent conditions.

Allegations against the MDC senior official stemmed from a rally he addressed in Bikita East a few months ago when he said his party would overthrow the Government before 2023.

“We are a committed leadership that will give Zanu-PF headaches and (Amos) Chibaya was not lying or joking about the war and fight we are going to take to the doorstep of Emmerson Mnangagwa. We are going to overthrow him before 2023, that is not a joke,” he said.
