The Information and Media Panel of Inquiry (IMPI) will today wind-up its outreach programme with meetings in Harare and Bulawayo before embarking on a regional study tour next week.
IMPI chairperson Mr Geoffrey Nyarota yesterday said the regional study tour will see the IMPI team visiting Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia and South Africa.

“A total of four IMPI mop-up outreach meetings are scheduled for Harare and Bulawayo tomorrow (today), Thursday, August 14, 2014,” he said. “The Bulawayo meetings have been booked for Stanley Square, Makokoba, at 10am and Bellevue Recreational Club 2pm.
Mr Nyarota said the Harare meetings were scheduled for 10am at Stodart Hall in Mbare and Mt Pleasant Hall.

“These will be the last meetings convened by IMPI,” he said. “Next week, the panel embarks on a four nation regional study tour of Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia and South Africa, before drafting of the IMPI Report starts in earnest.” Government recently extended IMPI’s mandate by two months to afford more time to those who may want to make further contributions.

The panel was expected to wind up its operations on July 31, but the deadline was extended to September 30.

IMPI was set up by the Ministry of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services to assess the state of the media in Zimbabwe and make recommendations.

The panel has visited several places throughout the country soliciting people’s views on the media.
