A 40-YEAR-OLD illegal gold dealer lost US$1 800 cash and 0,3 grammes of gold to four armed robbers who attacked him at his house in Nyanga on Monday night. The incident occurred at Shame Sachiwo’s homestead in Tore Village under Chief Katerere around midnight.Police said the four robbers who were armed with rifles went and knocked on a door at Sachiwo’s house alleging that they were gold panners.

The unsuspecting Sachiwo opened the door but was assaulted by the gang who ransacked his house and took the cash and the gold.
They disappeared into the darkness and a report was made to the police who are still investigating the case. No arrests have been made as yet.

Members of the public have been urged to avoid keeping large amounts of money in their homes as they are likely to fall prey to criminals who target them.

Some of the criminals are reportedly working in cahoots with either domestic workers or security guards in order to obtain information they want about their targeted victim.

In Zvishavane, police have launched a manhunt for two armed robbers who pounced on a gold buyer’s house and stole gold worth about US$12 000 and more than US$1 000 from the dealer’s security guard at gunpoint last week.

Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the robbers, who were armed with two pistols, pounced on Mr Simon Chivere’s house where they overpowered a security guard on duty.
