The Insurance Institute of Zimbabwe (IIZ) will hold its annual winter school in Nyanga next week. The winter school, which will run under the theme: “Going back to basics with a dynamic new mind set in insurance”, starts on August 21 and ends on August 24. IIZ general manager Mr George Chikava said that preparations for the winter school are almost done.“We are almost ready and we are hoping that the winter school will be both interesting and informative to the delegates that will attend,” he said.

This year’s winter school will be headlined by the IIZ president and Ruvimbo Funeral Assurance CEO Dr Edward Gomba.

Other speakers are First Mutual Holdings group marketing and strategy executive Ms Farayi Mangwende who will speak on the role, impact of e-commerce in the insurance sector and Old mutual Zimbabwe group chief risk officer Mr Shepherd Fungura who would focus on predictive analytics.

PricewaterhouseCoopers Zimbabwe territory senior partner Mr Tinashe Rwodzi will discuss distribution insights while The Jupiter Drawing Room & Partners (South East Africa) Mr Denford Magora will touch on connecting innovation and Insurance and Pensions Commission head of Prudential Services Mr Pupurai Togarepi will speak on changes in the regulatory landscape.

FML finance executive Mr Peddy Chigunduru will touch on strengthening financial reporting for non-financial managers in insurance while Pan African Reinsurance Brokers managing director Mr David Chinyemba will address the topic future challenges, opportunities and imperatives in the reinsurance space and inspirational author, executive coach and international speaker Mr Rabison Shumba will look at key principles for thriving in turbulence.

Delegates to the winter school are mainly drawn from supervisors, junior and middle managers in the insurance industry.

Its aim is to provide a platform for training and grooming future leaders in the insurance industry.
